Course Description

This course will examine key events of the early 1470s, beginning with the downfall of the Yorkist regime and its exile, along with the resulting re-adaption of King Henry VI. We will then go on to look at the circumstances of how Edward orchestrated his return to England in 1471, his degree of support and the circumstances surrounding the key battles of Barnet and Tewksbury, and the subsequent overthrow of the Lancastrian regime. Thereafter, we will consider the importance and key events during the second reign of Edward IV, analysing the major issues of both a decline in Lancaster and hopes, as well as the difficulties faced by the restoration of Yorkist authority and the governmental reforms instituted by the government at the time.
